Greg Whitfield, Independent Financial Adviser

Greg’s career in Financial Services started in 2007 as a Mortgage & Protection Adviser with the Openwork network and he became a Certified Financial Planner in 2010.

Greg is fully qualified to CII Level 6 having attained the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning. He is a Chartered Financial Planner together with being an Associate of the Personal Finance Society.

Greg joined Haven IFA Ltd at the start of 2011 and advises on all aspects of financial planning specialising in pension and investment planning.

Greg is married with two young sons, Oliver and Ewan and is a keen sportsman, regularly playing football and cycling.

Gary Moore, Independent Financial Adviser

Gary’s career in Financial Services began in 1989 when he joined Lloyds Bank. After passing his Banking Institute exams he joined Bradford & Bingley in 1992 where he qualified as a Financial Planner and advised Building Society clients on mortgage, investment and pension products in an independent capacity. He joined an estate agency chain in 1996 and worked extensively in the mortgage market until he joined a local IFA firm in Hale in 2002.

Having spent 9 years as a partner, building up a sizeable network of local independent estate agents and private clients and specialising in all types of mortgage, equity release and protection, he joined Haven early in 2011.

He still works extensively in the mortgage market due to ongoing connections and also provides holistic financial planning to his clients both pre and post-retirement.

Gary is a keen sportsman and regularly plays football, golf and tennis. He has also recently returned to playing squash after a long absence.

Paul Campion, Independent Financial Adviser

Paul has a wealth of experience in financial services having started his career in 1991 as a Pensions Adviser with Norwich Union who are known more recently known as Aviva.  He then moved on to the Halifax Building Society where he spent the next 21 years providing advice on Pension, Protection & Investment solutions to the Bank’s customers. After a successful career at the Halifax Paul made the decision to take voluntary redundancy and look for new opportunities within financial services.

He was delighted to take up the opportunity of joining Haven as an IFA and thoroughly enjoys providing his clients with face to face advice. Paul cares passionately about making sure his clients get the best possible advice and service from him. He particularly enjoys guiding his clients through their choices both pre-and post retirement and has a diverse client bank having helped a wide range of clients with differing needs.  

He is qualified to level 4 having taken and passed advanced diploma exams in Taxation and Trusts, Personal Investment Planning, Pensions. Paul is married to Sue and they have 1 son & 3 daughters who all share his passion for sports.

In his spare time, Paul is an active coach of his daughters football team and enjoys helping the girls build their skills and develop their game. He hasn’t quite hung up his own boots yet though and still manages to find the time to play 5 a side a few evenings a week. When not working, coaching, playing football or watching his children play netball, rugby, football and hockey he can be found with his dog, Archie, taking a daily stroll around the golf course.

Graham Slater, Director & Independent Financial Advisor

Graham has over 27 years’ experience within financial services having started his career with the Halifax in 1989.

He qualified as a Financial Adviser in 1996 and became a Senior Financial Adviser within the South Manchester area soon thereafter. Having cut his teeth with the Halifax he moved over to become a fully Independent Financial Adviser in February 2005.

Graham is qualified to CII Level 6 with an Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning. He also holds the title of ‘Chartered Financial Planner’ together with being an Associate of the Personal Finance Society. He is a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society which represents the culmination of just over 20 years of study.

Graham became a director of Haven IFA in 2008 and specialises in Investment and Pension planning including all aspects of Final Salary / Defined Benefit scheme transfers.

He particularly enjoys helping guide clients both to their retirements and through their retirement’s, fully utilising the new Pension Freedom flexibility now available to best suit their changing income needs.

Recently, Graham has championed the use of Cash Flow Modelling to help clients visualise their progression through retirement which has been very well received by both new and existing clients.

He has two lovely daughters – Alexandra and Isobel, both of whom he is very proud. He is engaged to his lovely fiancé Amanda and is looking forward to tying the knot in the near future.

In his spare time he enjoys walking his dog ‘Monty’, going to the gym and playing the odd round of golf (albeit badly).


Sue Campion, Independent Financial Adviser

With 33 years’ experience in financial services Sue was delighted to join the Haven team at Christmas 2016 following a successful career at Lloyds Banking Group from which she took earlier voluntary redundancy.

Sue’s financial career started in 1984 when she joined the Halifax Building Society as a mortgage adviser. Sue quickly became one of their first Independent Financial Advisers, advising clients across the full range of pensions, savings, investments, trusts and taxation including IHT planning.

From her initial position, Sue progressed to manage an area of financial advisers, then a regional team, culminating with a National role responsible for recruiting and training advisors and ensuring their competence. Sue has mentored numerous advisers over the years, individuals who have then gone on to have significant successful careers in their own right.

A member of both the Institute of Financial Services and the CII Sue holds the Level 4 Diploma for Financial Advisers, having taken advanced exams in Financial Planning and also a Level 7 Pg. Cert in Banking. Throughout the years, Sue has taken and passed numerous qualifications, keeping up to date with legislation changes and developments. Sue advises in all areas of financial planning including protection, taxation, investments, and pensions (inc final salary/defined arrangements.)

Nick Dando, Director & Independent Financial Advisor

Nick’s career in financial services began in 1987 when as a fresh faced twenty year old he joined the Prudential Assurance Company as a district agent working out of the Altrincham branch. In 1993, he moved on to pastures new when he took up a position with Halifax Financial Services, remaining with them for eight years until 2001. During his time at HBOS his career progressed from the initial position of providing investment advice to the Bank’s customers, through managing a Financial Services Call Centre in Bury and latterly the North Manchester area team of branch based financial advisers.

In 2001, he was given the opportunity to return to his customer facing roots once more (which he had very much missed during his time in management) and he joined a fledgling Haven IFA, which had been formed only two year earlier. Nick became a Director of the company in 2006 and these days he is responsible for the day-to-day running of the financial side of the business as well as his own clients financial affairs.

He is qualified to level 4 and is authorised by to give advice on all types of pension schemes including defined benefit final salary arrangements.

He describes his specialism as providing highly tailored and individual “financial life plans” for his clients set out in simple English. Plans that are reviewed regularly to ensure that clients are delivered into positions to enjoy retirements “without surprises”. At retirement Nick uses cash flow modelling tools to help his clients extract money from their assets with the minimal amount of tax leakage and then provides the helping hand to manage “their plans” along with them for as long as is needed.

Nick has three children between the ages of 19 and 9 all of whom study locally and who take up much of spare time. He finally hung up his boots in 2014 after a long Rugby Union playing career starting at St Ambrose College in Hale Barns and finishing at Bowdon RUFC but, as a keen sportsman he still has a love of the great outdoors. In his spare time his hobbies include walking, running, cycling and skiing in effort to stay fit and fight of the effects of the advancing years. He also like likes to study languages and recently passed the Spanish DELE B1 examination.

Mike Leigh, Director & Independent Financial Advisor

Mike Leigh, Director and Independent Financial Adviser Mike’s career in financial services began in 1988 when he worked for leading insurer the CIS. He then joined The Halifax Building Society where he held many positions, latterly that of Mortgage Adviser.

Mike joined Haven IFA in 2000 where initially he was the firms mortgage consultant. In 2003 he became a fully qualified Independent Financial Adviser. 2006 saw Mike become a Director of the business.

Mike advises in all areas of financial planning in both the private and corporate space.

Mike is married with two sons and is an avid Manchester United follower.

Samm Smith, Personal Assistant

Samm Smith, Personal Assistant Samm started her career at Prudential Assurance in 1990 working in the Corporate Pensions Dept. There, she administered company money purchase and defined benefit schemes, as well as heading up the Annuity Department.

After 5 years with the Pru she moved to Aegon Scottish Equitable where she eventually became Sales Support Manager. A re-structure within Aegon led to a move to Haven IFA in 2004. During her time with Haven, Sam has been a personal assistant to the Directorate and the advisory team. She currently looks after Graham, Paul and Greg.

Samm lives in Leigh with her partner Steven, together with their two children Finlay and Amelia, who keep her very busy indeed!

Leanne Gillam, Personal Assistant

Leanne Gillam,Personal Assistant Leanne started her career in the financial sector back in 1999 when she started working for Bankhall. After two years she wanted more of a challenge and joined Haven IFA in 2001.

During her time with Haven Leanne has been a personal assistant to the Directorate and the advisory team. Following an addition to family Leanne now works on a part time basis supporting the Directorate with the infrastructure and day to day running of the business.

Leanne lives in the Altrincham Area and loves her role working at Haven IFA Ltd


Anthony Murphy, Personal Assistant

Anthony graduated from MMU in 2015 with a 2.1 in Financial Services, Planning and Management. After enjoying some time off, he joined a local Pension firm specialising in SIPP and SSAS administration. Following a successful two years there he was ready to move into his chosen field of financial advice and joined Haven in February this year.

As a great addition to the team, Anthony is currently the PA to the Directorate and the advisory team. He currently looks after Mike and Gary. In his spare time, Anthony keeps himself busy cycling the roads of Lancashire, running his local Scout group and in addition to this he finds the time as avid volunteer for a number of charities.


Anum-Sabhani

Anum Sabhani, Personal Assistant

Anum moved to Manchester in 2013 from Milan, Italy where she always had a keen interest in pursuing a career in the Financial Industry. Anum studied for a Foundation Degree in Business & Management obtaining a Distinction in 2016, following this she then completed a Top-up BA (Hons) Degree in Financial Studies for which she has recently graduated.

During her studies, Anum worked as a Senior Administrator at Community-Minded Ltd, a non-for-profit company. Later becoming a board member whilst juggling this with her two young boys as a single parent.

Anum saw the opportunity to work with Haven IFA Ltd when we advertised for an administrator via her university. She acted swiftly to get on board and became part of the Haven team in June 2017. She currently looks after Nick and Sue as their PA.

Anum happily re-married in December 2016. Outside of work she leads a busy life as she is also a freelance makeup artist, supports her husbands company – Junior Sports Development Coaching Academy (JSDC), and adding to her array of skills and experience, Anum is also a Data Governor at Old Moat Community Primary School.
